Fire Drill Review:
After Lissie's excellent Why You Runnin' EP released last year, we fell in love with this new Americana voice on the scene and had very high expectations for her debut full length Catching A Tiger. What was not expected here was the balancing of her soulful voice with a more pop oriented direction. These tracks ride close to the line of Liz Phair and Sheryl Crow that sometimes work, like on the catchy "Stranger", and other times they simply fail to make an impression. What holds true on Catching A Tiger is that the three tracks carried over from Lissie's EP still play strong, along with the songs that don't cross too far into the pop range. It is this unbalance that holds this record back from excellence because most of this album is still really strong. I also have faith that with the right direction and focus, Lissie could still take the music scene by storm because she is full of talent!
