Fire Drill Review:
Miniature Tigers sophomore record Fortress tries really hard to be great. The band goes down several different indie musical avenues here that all seem to work for the band, as their laid back approach and harmonizing vocals bring several highlights. The group also had friendly help from Neon Indian on single "Gold Skull" and singer Chris Chu (Morning Benders) that lends some backing vocal support, which both increase the likability of the tracks. Lead singer Charlie Brand's soft James Mercer (Shins) style vocal is the real champion here as he handles whatever track lies ahead but overall Fortress needs better cohesion for total success. Miniature Tigers still have released a record that many will enjoy and in "single" doses Fortress is a winner and with a bit more focus, album number three has excellent potential!
