Fire Drill Review:
Devil's Brigade is the debut album from Rancid and Operation Ivy bass player Matt Freeman. It will have a direct appeal to all the punk-rockabilly fans out there with its feverish attitude and stand tall swagger. The group is rounded out with Tim Armstrong (Rancid) and DJ Bonebrake (X, Knitters) which without question creates a very loose vibe but musically tight record. Freeman's voice is as gruff as it gets and a good description of Devil's Brigade sound would be if a revved up Tom Waits played the Warp Tour. The record does not fool around, as it finishes 12 songs under 30 mintues and keeps a very punk pace. Devil's Brigade may not be for everyone but if you enjoy the Rancid family then this debut is for you.
