Fire Drill Review:
Brooklyn group New Idea Society bring a full band sound to fruition on their third long player Somehow Disappearing. Expanding from their previous more lo-fi offerings, NIS spent a solid two years writing and recording these twelve songs that have building soundscapes, crashing melodies and an undertone of synthesizers. The record was produced by Andy LeMaster (Bright Eyes, R.E.M., Now It's Overheard) and is easily the groups most focused material to date. Somehow Disappearing starts off with three really strong tracks that set the tone for the entire album, even though the record loses some steam in its later third, as the tracks are not nearly as memorable. New Idea Society clearly are not a new band but Somehow Disappearing is a new sound for them, as I can only imagine them growing stronger based on their work here.
