Fire Note Says: Grooving 60's style soul done right!
Album Review:
To say that Iowa City's Diplomats Of Solid Sound have found their groove on the groups fifth long player, What Goes Around Comes Around, is an understatement, as it represents some of their most fresh 60's style soul and funk yet. From the call out opening track "B-O-O-G-A-L-O-O", you are immediately immersed into the Diplomats world and it revs you up to grab a cocktail and your dancing shoes. On the second track, "Back Off" the horns take over and make you sw
ay, while the Hammond organ goes off in the background. These type of tracks make What Goes Around Comes Around completely engaging, as the duel female vocals of Sarah Cram and Kathy Ruestow give the record its spunk and drive. Clearly, everyone is not into the growing neo-soul movement but what separates DOSS from the rest, is the simple fact that they have been in the game for awhile and it shows here, as the band is musically tight and plays perfectly off each others energy. Heck, the group even expands some here, with the addition of violin, congas, mallet percussion and yes cowbells. That alone should sell you on the good time that the Diplomats Of Solid Sound provide here on What Goes Around Comes Around and is reason enough to get on board and hear what this movement is all about!Key Tracks: "Back Off", "B-O-O-G-A-L-O-O", "No Man"
