Fire Note Says: Excellent debut from Yuck balances 90's indie rock with swaying Brit-pop for catchy results!
Album Review:
Forming little over a year ago, the UK's Yuck have been riding tons of hype across seas and now with the release of their self-titled debut has presented 12 tracks to back it up. The group is a
throwback to the indie rock of the 90's and balances two different directions that make the album succeed. There are the feverish guitar driven tracks like "Holing Out" that feature distorted vocals and a little reverb, while the other songs have a much more plodding demeanor and soaring hooks to them, like the catchy "Shook Down" or the strumming ballad "Suicide Policeman." This Jekyll and Hyde act could have really backfired but Yuck pull it off here with an extreme amount of confidence for such a young band and never once put the listener off with either style. In fact, the group blends the transitions here perfectly and even though two different distinct styles emerge the listener does not get lost because both are done so well. Yuck should appeal to a wide following of indie fans here and I guarantee that after one spin you will be hooked too!Key Tracks: "Holing Out", "Georgia", "Shook Down"
