Fire Note Says: Middle Brother is a great indie meeting of the minds and voices that borrows the lead talent from Deer Tick, Dawes and Delta Spirit.
Album Review:
Middle Brother combines the forces of Deer Tick’s John McCauley, Dawes frontman, Taylor Goldsmith, and Delta Spirit frontman, Matt Vasquez for a 60's style folk rock record. The pairing and record really falls into the category of how can it be bad? All talented in their on respective bands, all three members here help mold Middle Brother into its own vehicle. Mostly this is successful
because the transitions of styles and pace have a very normal flow to them as each member gets an equal voice forward, while creating memorable group harmonies. The trio sounds like they have been together for years on the rolling "Blue Eyes" or the excellent Replacements cover of "Portland" which is creative and catchy. Regardless of tempo, Middle Brother comes out of each track with the same confidence that has driven their flourishing day job bands and highlights their talents that clearly rise above any one project. Middle Brother has put a solid foot forward on their debut and if given some more time together this is a side project that could explode on its sophomore round!Key Tracks: "Blue Eyes", "Me Me Me", "Portland"
