Fire Note Says: You are officially invited to chill with the cool grooves of Toro Y Moi!

Album Review:
Chaz Bundick, aka Toro Y Moi, has created a solid headphone record with his sophomore outing Underneath The Pine. It is the perfect bedroom pop album that combines his floating Brian Wilson like vocals with a full instrument arsenal that includes organ, pianos, chimes, and live drumming. This organic mix with Bundick's electronic roots makes for a record that has plenty of inner turmoil that plays out over its 39 minutes. "New Beat" kicks things off right with its foot tapping vibe that keeps your shoulders shaking but never loses control. The funk groove on "Still Sound" reigns supreme, while Bundick's bouncy and airy vocals charm you to death. Even the keyboard that runs in and out by itself would come off completely cheesy but in the context of this record it helps keep the beat and succeeds. Of course Underneath The Pine and Toro Y Moi would be nothing without his likable soft vocals. Bundick masterfully is able to run his vocals in, out, around and through each track here as he creates layers with both his instrumentation and chops. This is a record that easily gets better after each rotation and for me Toro Y Moi is the perfect album when you are looking for something a bit more unique to just let play - and it is a given that it is good!
