Foo Fighters: Wasting Light

Foo Fighters
Wasting Light
RCA Records [2011]

Fire Note Says: Easily the best record the Foo Fighters have released since The Colour And The Shape!

Album Review:
Produced by Butch Vig, mixed by Alan Moulder, recorded entirely on analog tape in a garage, return of past Foo Fighter member Pat Smear, guest appearance from Bob Mould (Hüsker Dü) and Krist Novoselic (Nirvana). Most of the time things on paper always seem better then then the real thing but the new Foo Fighters record Wasting Light completely lives up to the hype. Not only are the above listed bullet points highlights on Wasting Light, they are critical pieces that help complete the full picture. Right from the opening track "Bridge Burning", you realize that Wasting Light represents a much different Foo Fighters then the one we heard on 2007's Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace. This is a Foo Fighters that lives, breathes and screams rock. This is a Foo Fighters that has a hardened tight musical edge that really has not existed 100% over the last 14 years. The songs on Wasting Light are not only catchy but have attitude. It is this snarl that drives Dave Grohl and the band but it also inserts an intensity and unpredictability to their music that is exciting. Hands down, I believe that Wasting Light will be the rock record of the year, as it just gets better after every spin. The Foo Fighters not only have made their best record since The Colour And The Shape [1997] but also have provided a important lesson that it is never too late to rediscover your core and just let it loose!

Key Tracks: "White Limo", "I Should Have Known", "Dear Rosemary"
