Fire Note Says: Not the essential live album from Green Day but still pretty darn good.
Album Review:
Being one of the lucky ones back in the day, I saw Green Day in a small venue, so checking out the stadium recordings on their new live release, Awesome As F**k, which covers their most recent tour, makes me smile for several reasons. The first reason is that Green Day still put forth 110% every time they step on the stage regardless of its size. This energy comes through every song on this disc. The second r
eason is that Awesome As F**k actually tries to cover all areas of the band even though it is still American Idiot and 21st Century heavy. I can respect Green Day a little more here as they jam a little "Burnout" then hit the classic "Going To Pasalacqua" and latter the Kerplunk track "Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?" is also given its props. It is this slightly more eclectic set list that might attract some longtime Green Day followers plus the addition of new track "Cigarettes And Valentines" will help too, but the record still lacks some major singles from the band, especially from the Dookie era. This may not be a deal breaker for most but could detract some while the only other negative for me here is that the songs were recorded all over the tour, so you also don't the crowd consistency. At the end of the day, Awesome As F**k is an entertaining listen that still shows Green Day have it and if nothing else, lets some newer fan relive the great show they witnessed. I only wish I had this when I saw them for the first time!Key Tracks: "Cigarettes And Valentines", "Holiday", "Who Wrote Holden Caulfield?"
