Fire Note Says: Pearl Jam turns 20 and gets the remastered, restored and expanded treatment!

Album Review:
It is hard to believe that Pearl Jam is twenty and that we now have deluxe editions of their 2nd and 3rd LPs, Vs. and Vitalogy. With that said, both albums sound great as the remastering bursts out of your speakers, as both of these records took a very aggressive musical stance and helped propel Pearl Jam past their excellent debut into a long career.

Going back to these records brought back many great memories, especially picking up Vs. at a midnight sale (yes kids this used to happen before downloads) and reflecting back on how powerful some of these songs really are. I also seem now to have more respect for their ballads, as "Elderly Woman Behind The Counter" now ranks up there as one of my favorites.

That said some of the songs like "Bugs" and "Hey, Foxymophandelmama, That's Me"off Vitalogy still sound as completely bizarre as before, although now that is almost a good thing, as Pearl Jam still have never been afraid to experiment. The extra three tracks on both albums are nice additions, especially including "Crazy Mary" on Vs., which was off the 93' tribute album for Victoria Williams, as I always thought it was one of their better cover tunes.

A real treat in this package is the live album recorded in 94' at Boston's Orpheum Theatre. It captures the band in full rock mode and at the top of their game. The show sounds amazing and features a great moment when Mudhoney's Mark Arm is added to a scorching cover of "Sonic Reducer", while the show also highlights the band supplying plenty of energy into their well known playlist.

The only addition here that would have been nice, would be a second disc so that the entire show was captured and would have included some other Pearl Jam staples but also their final song and cover of the Beatles "I've Got A Feeling". Overall, if you are a Pearl Jam fan or even if you used to be during this era - this package is worth your time and a true celebration of a band that now sounds more important then ever!

Key Tracks: "Sonic Reducer (Live)", "Elderly Woman Behind The Counter In A Small Town", "Corduroy"
