Fire Note Says:
A very likeable debut from Americana band Mount Moriah!

Album Review:
North Carolina band Mount Moriah combine a traditional Southern roots folk with the indie Americana pop of the North in order to create their solid self-titled debut. The album hits all of the folk themes like devotion, tribulation, redemption, and an indelible sense of place, as lead singer Heather McEntire delivers a Jenny Lewis style vocal. This combo creates plenty of memorable tracks regardless of pace, as foot tappers "Lament" and "Social Wedding Rings" will capture your ear as much as the soul gripper "Old Gowns" or gorgeous closing track "Hail, Lightning". Mount Moriah also had some talented help in the making of this record, as Phil and Brad Cook (Megafaun, Gayngs), Daniel Hart (St. Vincent) and Will Hackney (Bowerbirds) all lended a musical hand while the album was recorded and mixed by Brian Paulson (Beck, Wilco). Mount Moriah still have some maturing to do as a band but with this entertaining debut, I can only imagine great things for the group in the future and we will certainly be watching!
