Fire Note Says: Gypsyblood bring an honest slice of fuzzed out reverb on their debut Cold In The Guestway.
Album Review:
Chicago band Gypsyblood present an overall fuzzy and reverb drenched guitar sound on their debut Cold In The Guestway that also includes a strong pop undertone, which makes things interesting. The band is made up of Adam Jones and Kyle Victor and on their debut
the duo attempts to build bigger landscapes then their previous band. Opening track "Take Your Picture" is a fine example of how Gypsyblood explode their drums and guitar while keeping their vocals slightly under the radar. On other tracks, like "Superstition", the vocals have a bounce to them that includes call outs which give the band depth by showing another side of Gypsyblood. The only real thing that holds Gypsyblood back is that the 2nd half of the album starts to suffer some as it sounds a bit too similar to the first group of tracks. Gypsyblood is definitely a band to keep your ears on as Cold In The Guestway is a solid debut that should lead to bigger things moving forward as they have all the right pieces to make something great!Key Tracks: "Take Your Picture", "Superstition", "Endless Summer"
