Stuyvesant: Fret Sounds

Stuyvesant

Fire Note Says:
No tricks here - just some straight up indie rock from New Jersey's Stuyvesant.

Album Review:
Hoboken, New Jersey indie rock group Stuyvesant (pronouced Sty-vas-ent) are out to have a good time and their sophomore LP, Fret Sounds, is all the proof you need. The record is full of pumping air guitar riffs and memorable melodies that quickly stick with you, as the 30 minute record cranks along without much of a breather. Stuyvesant have a very Descendents punk undertone but on the surface follow a much more overall rock vibe, like a Hüsker Dü that keeps their sound honest and to the point. With Fret Sounds, Stuyvesant delivers pretty much as advertised, minus the almost completely instrumental mid way spacey jam "Bish Dub" and the ballad closer "Cimarron, NM". These tracks show a diversity for the band which hopefully will see some more exploration in the future because they work in their favor. Stuyvesant shows real promise here and even though Fret Sounds is a little rough around the edges in parts, the record brings tons of confidence and simply is just a good record that you can roll down your car windows, turn up the volume and never look back!

Key Tracks: "Duly Noted", "St. Cloud", "Ever"
