Fire Note Says: New expansive sound gives White Denim all new musical territory to try out!
Album Review:
Austin, TX band White Denim have grown some since we last heard from them on their fourth record simply titled D. Since Fits [2010], the group added a second guitarist plus decided that recording in a proper studio was the right avenue to take on D. These two pieces are the start of
something for White Denim as D is easily the best sounding record the band has released along with having more depth that gives the group a new edge we have not been able to hear before. This all comes out in the super groovy instrumental track "At The Farm", which highlights many of the jam components White Denim possess and love, while the layered rocker "Bess St." hits with more force then most of the songs in their previous catalog. What the band has not lost on D, is the ability to morph through genres, such as blues, psychedelia and even a little boogie plus switch tempos mid song, as they once again pull of this trick during the entire album. D is something as a transition record for White Denim, as the more studio sound works for them but you can tell that it was still a new territory they entered. Now that the band has figured it out, I definitely would not forget about White Denim because D just scratches the surface and paves the way for something even better next time out!Key Tracks: "At The Farm", "Bess St.", "Keys"
