Fire Note Says: A must record for any indie rock collection!
Album Review:
North Carolina's Archers Of Loaf has always been a band I refer back to when I reference early 90's indie rock so a remastered 2 disc version of their debut, Icky Mettle, had me excited and is well worth a sit down. It has an innocent energy to it that comes from the band wanting to just get
their music heard and only taking seven days to record and mix the record. You just know that every chord, every pounding drum and every vocal is served with purpose and that makes Icky Mettle that much more engaging. The remastering alone sounds spectacular, as the guitars soar out of the record and Eric Bachman's throaty howl pops out of the speakers. The second disc here is a great addition for people new to Archers Of Loaf, as it starts with the excellent 5 song EP Vs. The Greatest Of All Time (1994) and then is followed by rarities and b-sides from the Icky era. The other good news here is that Icky Mettle is the first of the Archers catalog to be reissued, as their remaining 3 albums will follow next year and will help promote a band that was greatly missed by the masses!Key Tracks: "Wrong", "Web In Front", "Backwash"
