Brilliant Colors: Again And Again

Fire Note Says: Brilliant Colors stick to the formula on sophomore album Again And Again.

Album Review:
San Francisco's Brilliant Colors take the approach if it ain't broken then don't fix it on their sophomore album Again And Again. The trio brings another fuzzed up pop record to you that once again concludes just as fast as it starts, while only having a running time of 28 minutes. The band doesn't change much of their song structures here either but does let vocalist Jess Scott get in front of the tracks a bit more compared to being buried in the mix on Introducing (2009). This approach of letting their music breathe a bit more really works on "Back To The Tricks", as you can hear the catchy guitar chord riffing in the background as Scott leads the song which has real teeth. I also think "Telephone Stories" benefits from easing up a bit on the feedback and letting the pop undertone of the song shine as it just strolls along with a relaxed vocal. Again And Again does not surpass Brilliant Colors debut because some of the tracks here sound too laid back and similar to make them memorable. What Again And Again does accomplish is showing some progression in Brilliant Colors that now combined with their debut should only lead to an even more expanded and engaging third LP.

Key Tracks: "Hey Dan", "Back To The Tricks", "Telephone Stories"
