Fire Note Says: Cincinnati's Buffalo Killers offer a unique and modern sounding 70's groove rock on their new album 3!

Album Review:

If you have a void for early 70's groove rock then checking out Cincinnati's Buffalo Killers third LP, aptly titled 3, should be a must. The trio pulls off a time travel right from the opening ear catching track "Huma Bird", as the soaring vocals from brothers Andy and Zach Gabbard grab your attention quickly while the steady beat from drummer Joey Sebaali will have your foot tapping along instantly. The song sets the stage for 3, as most of the tracks keep this same song structure and mid tempo pace. This similar themed outing makes for a very straight forward listening experience that possesses a noticeable competence and confidence that either will get listeners on board immediately or simply may not just be for everyone. The Buffalo Killers do have a couple surprises on 3 that takes the album up a notch with one of them being the memorable slow burning "All Turn To Cloud" that features banjo and lap steel, while simultaneously offering an entirely new Americana flavor to the band that completely works. 3 also gets some excellent guest help in the form of Brian Olive adding his sax playing skills and Kelley Deal lending her backup vocals to the closing slow jam "Could Never Be", which reunites this pairing as they teamed up earlier this year on the Guided By Voices tribute record. The Buffalo Killers successfully bridge the rock eras here with 3 and place a modern indie spin on a style of music that has been with us for a very long time. It is an album that sounds better after repeat plays and most certainly is perfect for just sitting back and letting the Buffalo Killers build your musical landscape in all their rock grander!
