Fire Note Says: Sleeping Bag bring back everything that was great about 90's indie rock on their superb self-titled debut!

Album Review:
Bloomington, Indiana trio Sleeping Bag instantly bring back great memories of 90's indie rock on their self-titled debut with their fractured song structures, exploding melodies and laid back delivery. Drummer singer-songwriter Dave Segedy drives this party as the primary vocalist and right from the opening song "Slime", Sleeping Bag sets the bar high with its foot tapping pace and by just giving the listener the ability to chant "Slime, Slime, Slime" this record is worth the price of admission. Everything with Sleeping Bag is simple, from the mostly one-word titles to the two and half minute song average, which makes this debut easy to absorb and then play again. With the shorter track lengths, Sleeping Bag are able to engage you with quick bursts of indie brilliance, like the repetitive and catchy "giddy up" sung on "Beside" or the acoustic start in "Ben" that builds into a big hooking song with everyone chiming in and angular guitar work that makes it memorable. The almost stomping instrument explosion on "Rental" gets you going before the lyrics are delivered so smoothly and the guitar work in "Desker" never slows down for its intense almost 3 minute length. Sleeping Bag successfully have recreated a sound here that has almost disappeared in the current scene, so not only does their debut sound fresh for a younger generation today it represents the perfect bridge that should capture a wide audience which has been following this sound since the 90's - and wishing it would return!
