Ladytron: Gravity The Seducer

Fire Note Says: Ladytron mellows a bit on fifth long player Gravity The Seducer.

Album Review:
It has been three years since the last Ladytron record and as the musical landscapes continue to change you either need to adapt or just fade away. The group's fifth long player, Gravity The Seducer attempts to morph Ladytron into 2011 but falls a bit short from being totally successful. The band gets credit for never making the same album twice and Gravity The Seducer follows suit, as the band is now in a more atmospheric progressive mode. Personally, I go back to songs like "Destroy Everything You Touch", "Blue Jeans" and "Playgirl", that all used the elctro rock approach but also had an attitude with them. This edgy undertone is what made Ladytron stand out. Gravity The Seducer seems to put a bit of a muzzle on Ladytron's bite and that hurts its overall appeal. With that said, Ladytron still make a valid attempt at providing something new, such as including several instrumental tracks and pushing the vocals up a bit more, giving them a floating quality on many of the album's eleven songs. Gravity The Seducer is much more of a grower than their earlier catalog but still has many memorable moments. It is a record that does not surpass Ladytron's earlier work but it is a record that should still please longtime fans.
