Superchunk: Foolish [Reissue]

Fire Note Says: You don't have this one - you should!

Album Review:
Foolish is the next remaster/reissue album from the Superchunk catalog and it is an important one, as it represented a historic moment for the band back in 1994 because it was their first record released on their own label, Merge records. The band's previous three records were released on indie power Matador and Superchunk had every label, big and small, courting them during this time of alternative nation. Going with their own label may have seemed odd then but turned out to be the perfect decision today, as Merge is stronger than ever. With all of this activity going on, limited recording time plus the added stress of Mac McCaughan and Laura Ballance's romantic relationship ending, Foolish easily could have been a huge debacle but quite the opposite happened, as tracks like "Like A Fool", "The First Part" and "Driveway To Driveway" are now Superchunk classics. They all hit within the albums first 16 minutes, which also provides much more of Foolish to showcase the bands musical evolvement and heart driven lyrics that still stands tall today. Superchunk will forever go down as a top notch indie band but clearly they will also be remembered for so much more outside of just making records. Foolish is just one piece of that story but looking back, it was a big piece!
