Fire Note Says: O'Brother comes at you from a multitude of angles but they all lead to one heavy rocking debut in Garden Window!
Album Review:
I guess art-metal-indie-rock is a thing and if not then I am just going to place Atlanta's O'Brother in that category because their debut, Garden Window, is one rocked out wild ride from beginning to end. This of course is said with a great amount of respect because O'Brother is one of those bands that things could go horribly wrong fast but instead they possess an emerging confidence on
each and every track that makes you think that they have been at this for years. The heavy fuzzed up opening track "Malum" is a good starting example of how this band morphs from track to track as the song grinds along with some Tool tendencies before switching gears into the memorable "Lo" that rocks with the best of Queens Of The Stone Age's material. "Poison!" showcases O'Brother's artistic indie side, as it slides a little piano in and out of its background with the building vocals of Tanner Merritt.
Overall, Garden Window is grandiose and loud in every good way a record of this nature can be. It's eleven songs cover a whopping 63 minutes as the band can crank out a 6, 7 or even a 14 minute track. O'Brother might not be for everyone but for fans of this stylistic rock, this is a stellar debut that should capture everyone that enjoys the more familiar Queens Of The Stone Age vibe to the heavy instrumental rock outfit Russian Circles. O'Brother takes no prisoners on Garden Window and I don't think you would want it any other way!
