Turntable KitchenPairings Box Vol. 1-4
Self-Released [2011/2012]

Did you ever play some new music and think that rosemary-basted eggs, lavender-sea salt steaks, eggplant stacks with zataar yogurt or a chipotle chocolate cake might go really well with your vinyl selection? Well, San Francisco couple Kasey and Matthew absolutely think this way and now with their creative Turntable Kitchen Pairings Boxes they share recipes, give you some ingredients and supply the limited release vinyl singles from great independent bands for your listening pleasure. The idea turns out to be the perfect combo for The Fire Note as we love to eat and clearly love new music. Currently the monthly subscriptions are sold out but starting January 15, Turntable Kitchen is taking new reoccurring subscriptions so make sure you don't delay if you want in!
Below is a quick take on the first four featured bands of the series which are all unique and a great listen!
TK001 - Motel Beds: Western Son/UK Surfjerk 7" (White Vinyl/250)Dayton, Ohio's Motel Beds have been featured here on The Fire Note so we were quite pleased that they were selected for the debut pairing. This 7" gives you an alternate take on Surfjerk that is superb with their unique style of rock that is enough to keep you coming back for more.
TK002 - Evenings: Lo-Velo/Babe 7" (White Vinyl/250)Virginia based Evenings features the musical mind of Nathan Broaddus and his mostly instrumental creations that set the perfect mood for any type of dinner you create. I will also warn you that the stylistic "Lo-Velo" will have you looking at your vinyl as it purposely drops in and out which only adds to its enjoyment.
TK003 - Steffaloo: When The Sun Goes Down/Wake Me Up Before You Go-Go (Clear Vinyl/300)Steffaloo has a very elegant and shimmering siren vocal that uses a straightforward acoustic-guitar based melody to grab your ear. The real interesting treat here is her deconstructed cover of Wham's "Wake Me Up" that shines with her light vocals and serious take on a typically fun and goofy song.
TK004 - Cheerleader: New Daze/Do What You Want (Clear Vinyl/325)Hartford, Connecticut duo Donovan Rex and Max Friday make up Cheerleader and their 7" features upbeat melodies, hand-clap rhythms and a slight lo-fi production. Both tracks are solid with "Do What You Want" being previously unreleased. This is a band I am looking forward hearing some new material hopefully sometime this year.
