WeekendRed EP
Slumberland Records [2011]

Fire Note Says: A possible preview of what's to come.
Album Review:
The Red EP is a nice teaser for what 2012 brings our way from lo-fi rockers Weekend. Opening track "Sweet Sixteen" shows off some of Weekend's hazy talents as the track is very slow moving
and uses frontman Shaun Durkan's voice to penetrate through the wall of sound. In contrast, the next track "Hazel" is much more a straightforward rocker that has a pulsing bass and stand out drum beat which allows Durnkan to bring it all home with a catchy hook. With only 5 songs on Red, Weekend only offer so much insight here but there is an attractive balance of shoegaze combined with their lo-fi rock.
This release truly raises the anticipation for a full length because even though the upbeat tunes outshine the slower material here, Weekend still succeed on the almost 6 minute closing grinder "Golfers" and that just makes this band that much more daunting!
